The tale of King Arthur has inspired every fantasy story from Star Wars to The Lord of The Rings. Luke Skywalker, Aragorn, and Jon Snow are all versions of King Arthur. The figure of Merlin inspired Obi-wan, Dumbledore and Gandalf. But Merlin was himself a copy of the original Taliesin, because he – and the original tales of King Arthur – were Welsh.
It’s time for the original. We’re bringing fantasy home.
We are crafting an epic cinematic blockbuster bursting with action, magic and romance. It is based in the original Welsh tales of King Arthur from the Mabinogion and other sources. It will be filmed entirely across the breathtaking landscapes of Wales.
Long before The Lord of the Rings made New Zealand famous or Game of Thrones drew millions to Ireland, Welsh legends of King Arthur ignited the world’s imagination. Now, with Excalibur, we are bringing this legendary tale back to its roots and championing Wales as the global home of fantasy.

Son of prophecy
Born to an unknown father, his mother is a member of the rainforest-dwelling people of the West. Deeply civilised and peaceful, Arthur must wrestle with his love of peace but the need to defend his land.
Bard of the West
The spirited, impish and passionate bard. He is forbidden from interfering in the affairs of humanity, but his love for ordinary people, and in particular the young Arthur, leads him astray.
ADEPT
A dauntless and brilliant scholar, Gwenhwyfar’s love of learning leads her first into a nunnery and then to study the magic of the bards.
KNIGHT ERRANT
The greatest of the knights of the West, assigned to teach Arthur the way of the knight. He is also a roguish warrior and a lover of all things fermented. And liquid.
Water-witch
The water-witch of Cors Fochno. She is not only evil, but has turned her nihilism into a hideous credo. A vicious and terrifying presence.
Heir to King Uther
The half-brother of Arthur and eldest son of King Uther, who bitterly desires the crown and the sword Excalibur. He has a tortured relationship with his mother Morgan Wrach.
The mysterious beauty of the Welsh countryside will play a central role in Excalibur. Our green country is strewn with castles, wild waterfalls and glassy lakes, every one with a legend attached. Here dragons roam, afancs lurk, and bards sing enchantments according to a complex system of rules. This is the home of one of the world’s oldest living languages. It captivated Tolkien so much that he called it “the senior language of the men of Britain” and it formed the basis of his Elvish language Sindarin.
We don’t need much in the way of special effects to create a fantasy world, because we’ve got the original. Join us!
